It is Orange Shirt Day tomorrow!
Week of Sep 14-18
Highlight of the week.
It was a wonderful day on Friday as all the classes participated in our Terry Fox run. It was great to see so many donations brought in to support this very worthy cause. The students gave a tremendous effort and walked, jogged and sprinted around our field. As a class, we have been looking at the distance Terry Fox covered on his run and we compared that to our walks around the block . We discovered that we would need to walk around the streets that surround our school 84 times a day to equal the distance that Terry covered in 1 day. Amazing!

We are off to a great start. We have begun our learning this year with some introductory activities in all of the subjects.
In LA, we have begun looking at what makes great sentences by adding details to our writing. We have started to create a web looking at the character traits that made Terry Fox a hero. We will use this to create a well developed paragraph next week.
In Math, we have looked at how numbers are put together in terms of place value as well as how to show numbers in a variety of ways.
In Social Studies, students have looked at various maps to get a sense of direction and layout as we will need these skills as we investigate our study of the countries we will study this year.
In Science, we have just begun to get an understanding of our first unit which is Animal Life Cycles. Next week we will look at how animals are classified into groups based on their characteristics.
