 Sunday Nov 21

Here is this week's homework.

 Friday Nov 19

Starting next week students are asked to bring in non perishable items for the Food Bank. The grade three's are leading this event and we will be collecting items until December 13th . They will also be creating awareness in our school through class visits, posters and announcements. This is a very important event and we are proud to support it.

This week the students worked on;

LA- The students worked on creating a short story based on the indigenous concept of nature helping humans. The story focussed on an issue a character had in which they wanted to give up. Through a discussion with a rock, the character learned about the character trait of perseverance and determination. Students worked very hard on sequencing their ideas and linking the rock's message to help the character not give up. These will be completed very soon.

Math- Students continued to develop their adding skills through mental math, computation and problem solving. We have also begun our initial work on subtraction with regrouping.

Social - Students have moved into Tunisia and are investigating its geography and climate through small group and individual research activities.

Science - We have taken a break from our animal study to begin a look at rocks and how they play an important role in the world and in our lives. Our first step was to look at the layers of the earth and will shortly be examining the specific characteristics of rocks.

 Sunday Nov 7

This past week we worked on:

LA- The students have completed a descriptive paragraph using all the elements of good writing that we have worked on this year. This includes a great opening sentence, descriptive words, use of our senses and use of similes.

Math- Students used their skills in pattern recognition to solve a variety of word problems. We discussed a 4 step problem solving plan  with which students can analyze a problem.

Science- Students viewed a special presentation on the life cycle of a trout hosted by The Bow Habitat Station. They learned many facts about the life of a trout and how people are helping to keep the fish population in good shape.

Social- Students are completing their brochure on the geography of Peru. This includes regional knowledge as well as directional components.

Here is this week's homework.
