Sunday October 24

The students had lots of fun running in search of various targets last week as we all participated in Adventure Running. It was great exercise as well as a good time.

Monday is picture re take day. Please email me if you want your child to have re takes done.

Math- students continue to work with numbers to create and recognize patterns . We also looked at geometric shapes through the design of a creepy house using only a few shapes which we will then graph some characteristics of the shapes.

LA- students continue to work on the basics of writing through descriptive language and paragraph formation.

Science- the students have used their knowledge of different animal groups to create their own creatures using specific attributes from the classes of animals.

Social- students are creating a brochure detailing the geographical and climatic ares of Peru.

This week:

LA- students added to their writing strategies as we have been using pictures to develop descriptive writing fluency. Through the use of their senses students have created writing pieces that allow us to see in our minds what the students have written. Here is one example.

Math-students continued working on number sense and the relationship of numbers through some Venn Diagram work.

We have also begun to look at increasing patterning sequences.

Social - students continue to investigate quality of life through an investigation of the Peruvian landscape and how the terrain affects their lives.

Science- students continue to classify animals based on their characteristics. This week's focus was on insects.

This week week we focussed on,

The students worked on assignments associated with our Truth and Reconciliation assembly. Through discussions, writing and art, students spent time considering and acknowledging our historic ties with the First Nation People.

They created landscapes connecting to the book, We Learn from the Sun.

They also discussed how we can be generous with the special qualities we have. This art shows how we can share the goodness in our hearts.

Remember it's picture day on Monday!

In our learning this week,

LA-students continue to develop their writing skills focussing on proper sentence structure including recognizing parts of speech. We used these ideas in writing about Terry Fox this week.

Math- students are working on developing their number sense, writing numbers, comparing and ordering numbers.

Social - The students were lucky to participate in the Teacher's Pet presentation that gave a great overview for the 4 countries we will study this year.

Science- We continue to investigate animals and are comparing and contrasting them based on their characteristics.
